Program Description:
The College of Shari’ah and Islamic Studies provides a structured academic program designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge of Islamic law (Shari’ah) and the fundamental sciences of Islam. The curriculum is primarily based on the College of Shari’ah curriculum of the Islamic University of Madinah, with necessary adjustments and enhancements to synchronize with the academic standards and regulatory requirements of the Philippines.
The program integrates classical Islamic texts with modern scholarly discourse to ensure both authenticity and relevance. Students will study Qur’an, Hadith, Usul al-Fiqh (principles of jurisprudence), Fiqh (jurisprudence), Aqeedah (Islamic creed), Islamic history, and comparative legal studies, while also being exposed to contemporary applications of Islamic law in modern societies.
Program Objectives:
Provide students with a solid grounding in the sources and methodologies of Islamic law.
Develop the ability to analyze classical juristic opinions and apply them to contemporary contexts.
Enhance research and academic writing skills in Islamic studies.
Prepare graduates for roles in education, fatwa institutions, community leadership, or advanced postgraduate studies.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of Qur’anic sciences, Hadith sciences, and the methodologies of Islamic jurisprudence.
Critically evaluate different schools of Islamic thought and their approaches to legal issues.
Apply principles of Shari’ah to contemporary social, ethical, and legal matters.
Conduct academic research in Islamic law and present findings in a scholarly manner.
Uphold Islamic values in professional, educational, and community leadership roles.
Program Structure:
Duration: 4 academic years (12 Trimesters)
Language of Instruction: Arabic and Tagalog (with support in local languages where necessary)
Core Courses: Qur’anic Studies, Hadith and Sunnah, Usul al-Fiqh, Fiqh (various schools), Aqeedah, Islamic Ethics, Islamic History, Comparative Fiqh, Research Methodology.
Electives: Contemporary Issues in Shari’ah, Islamic Finance, Family Law, Da‘wah and Communication, Islamic Political Thought.
Capstone Requirement: Senior Research Project/Thesis in Shari’ah and Islamic Studies.
Admission Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Proficiency in Arabic (students may be required to complete preparatory Arabic courses if necessary).
Entrance examination and/or interview.
